App history

Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Episode II is a 2D platformer video game in the Sonic the Hedgehog series, developed by Dimps with assistance from Sonic Team and published by Sega. It is a direct follow-up of Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Episode I. Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Episode II was released in May 2012 for PC (via Steam), PlayStation Network, Xbox Live Arcade, Android and iOS. As with Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Episode I, the game is intended to emulate the original Sonic titles on the Sega Mega Drive. In addition, players who owned both episodes of Sonic the Hedgehog 4 on the same system were granted Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Episode Metal.

On May 31st 2025, the mobile port along with Sonic the Hedgehog CD was put out of service.

Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Episode II Lite is the free demo version of the full game, which contains the first acts of Sylvania Castle Zone and White Park Zone. If you finish Sylvania Castle Zone in under 1 minute, you can access the Special Stage.

Touch controls

Use the circle pad left or right to move Sonic, downward to crouch, and upward to look up. The JUMP button is used to jump or perform an Air Dash. Pressing the JUMP button after a jump when a reticle is displayed makes Sonic perform a Homing Attack towards the target. Hold down DOWN on the circle pad and press the JUMP button repeatedly to perform a Spin Dash.

Press the TEAM ACTION button to perform an ability with Tails. Pressing the TEAM ACTION button on foot makes Sonic and Tails perform a super spin attack. Pressing the TEAM ACTION button in the air makes Tails carry Sonic and fly in the air.

In the Special Stages, the RUN button makes both Sonic and Tails runs faster.

Tilt controls

Tilt your device left or right to move Sonic, down to crouch, and up to look up. Touch the screen to make Sonic jump or perform an Air Dash. Touching the screen after a jump when a reticle is displayed makes Sonic perform a Homing Attack towards the target. Tilt your device downward and touch the screen repeatedly to perform a Spin Dash.

The TEAM ACTION button works like in the Touch controls.

In the Special Stages, tilt your device upward to make both Sonic and Tails runs faster.
